I Lost my blog!!

So my blog got lost ,yes i had forgotten my password and for some reason i found it hard to reset a new one. I guess at the time Google had some issues, so i wasn't inspired to reconnect with the world. I only just tried again and Alas! it worked. As for the direction of my blog, that's still a confusing topic, but i cant say i'm not loving the randomness of it. I love that i can come and post anything i like :-)

Yayy i got my hair!!

Finally my hair has arrived, but i dont actually know when i'm going to get it done seeing as i dont have any major events to look forward to, i'm not quite a social buttery although i kind of used to be.. Anyways back to the 'extensions' talk, its not as soft and silky as my indian but apparently brazilian extensions tend to have a harder texture, ah well like i said in my previous post i'll find out the true quality of the hair when i've used it a couple of times. The next type of hair i plan to buy is "Malaysian" this comes in a somewhat straight texture its hardly wavy but it does tend to curl up with the use of rollers or curlers.

Expectations..

So yes i love my weaves, hee hee dont we all? I just ordered 3 different lengths of wavy Brazilian hair from my friend in England who's coming back this week, i'm very excited but also scared at the same time :( i dont know what to expect from the quality of hair she's bringing, when she told me she was taking orders i was too excited to think 'what if the hair is'nt so good'. I guess I have no choice, i cant exactly say i dont want the hair even if its not good, and besides i'll only know the true quality when i actually use it. i'll be able to see if it has longevity or not here's to hoping that it will. Fingers crossed xx
p.s- it cost me over £250 ( a bit cheap i think, no?)

RAIN 'Replenish Africa Initiative'

 "WATER IS LIFE"

I just watched these videos and i really felt sad for the people who live in these regions where clean water is not easily accessible, it makes you think about how we take these things for granted, even though i live in Nigeria where sometimes water can also be an issue if you dont have a source of water which is reliable most people need to buy water in tankers which they reserve and use for less than a month or a few weeks, there are also bore holes which provide people with water but sometimes depending on the area you live in the water might be cloudy or even dirty with a horrid stench, with this source you might also have to invest in  good water treatement  varying from expensive machines to chemicals which can be added to purify the water. Even with all these sources it is still a tricky task.

The Coca Cola Company first announced the RAIN project in March 2009, where  US$30 million would be dedicated to bring clean water across Africa. Chris Taylor, Solange Knowles, Twin Shadow and director Natalie Johns all came together to create "Kenya", a donate to download track for RAIN.

Recent books i've read...

Over the past few months i've really gotten into the habit of picking up various books to read. My friend got me hooked on Cassava republic books, basically this is an African printing press that publishes different authors from Africa, mostly of Nigerian descent. Their cover illustrations are really really good, you almost would'nt believe its an African book when you look at the cover, kudos to Cassava republic.

So i've read a few of their books, such as: I Do Not Come to You by Chance-  Adaobi NwaubaniWaiting for an Angel- Helon Habila, Tropical Fish 'Tales from Entebbe'- Doreen Baingana, Measuring Time- Helon Habila, Nights of the Creaking Bed- Toni Kan.

'I Do Not Come to You by Chance' was probably the funniest out of these few i've read, it hilariously highlights the issue of internet fraud and other 419 scams that go on in Nigeria. It tells the story of a young man who has to come to terms with his father's death and also has to find a way to provide for his younger siblings and generally take care of his family who are financially unstabble. The way the author tells the story is so captivating i had to finish this book the day i started reading, i was literally up till 4am even though i had to get up a bit early to get some work done later that morning. This book is a must read for young Nigerians,  it graphically sheds light on most of the problems many Nigerian youths face today.

Another book which I really like is 'Measuring Time' this book is set in rural Jos, Helon Habila takes us through different era's and tells us stories within stories,i really felt like i could relate to this book for some reason. My friend did'nt like it as much and said the book "dragged on a bit" i totally loved it, this might be because i'm a Historian and the book does have a lot of historical references, infact a character in the book is recruited by the traditional ruler to write the history of the people in that village. I also found it hard to put this book down.

I just thought to share some lovely literature, i'm also so proud of these Nigerian authors who are getting recognised internationaly, and telling stories of situations that really do exist. I'm definately going to get more books from Cassava Republic, they are conveniently sold in most supermarkets and bookshops around Lagos, this makes it easier for me *yayyy* if you dont exactly know where you can get your hands on them i suggest you visit their website http://www.cassavarepublic.biz/ you can also read about upcoming books, e.t.c
